The Billings Family Archive Digital Collections contain printed manuscripts and photographic materials related to Billings Farm and Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park. The neighboring farm and park share a rich history as they were once part of Frederick Billings' Woodstock, Vermont, estate. The archival collections encompass a wide range of materials, including letters, diaries, journals, guestbooks, estate inventories, and other personal papers created by three generations of the Billings family, providing valuable insights into the family's interests and their domestic, social, and philanthropic activities. Photographs, negatives, and glass plates of the Billings family and farm, dating from the mid-19th to the 20th century, visually describe agriculture and farm life in Woodstock, the Upper Connecticut River Valley, and Vermont. Notable is Frederick Billings' collection of mammoth photographs and glass stereographs of the American West, taken by Carleton E. Watkins in the 1860s.                                                                                                                              





The Billings Family Archive at the Billings Farm & Museum provides primary source documentation of Billings Farm, one of the best-documented historic farms in America, and of Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park, which encompasses the former home of Frederick
Billings and Julia Parmly Billings, as well as successive generations of the Billings family. The neighboring farm and park share a history as they were once part of Frederick Billings’ Woodstock, Vermont, estate.

Farm manager George Aitken and the Billings family attended the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, also known as the Chicago World's Fair. Organized to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus's arrival in the New World, the Fair attracted more than 25 million visitors over six months. Highlights included grand neo-classical exhibition halls, the debut of the world's first Ferris Wheel, and displays of the era's most remarkable achievements in technology, art, and agriculture. Billings Farm received national acclaim, earning top awards for its Jersey herd.
